1. Utilities

Electricity. Florida Power & Light serves Coral Springs. Start service online before move-in day. Our power outages guide has the outage map and report line.

Water and sewer. Coral Springs has four water providers, and which one you get depends on your address, the city’s contact page says:

Provider Phone Area
City of Coral Springs Water District 954-344-1825 Wiles Road south to Royal Palm Boulevard, and north of Wiles from Riverside Drive east to U.S. 441
Coral Springs Improvement District 954-753-0380 South of Royal Palm Boulevard to the C-14 canal
North Springs Improvement District 954-752-0400 North of Wiles Road and west of Riverside Drive
Royal Water Works 888-228-2134 Ask the provider

For the city water district, owners open an account with the Utility Service Application and Agreement, proof of ownership (warranty deed or closing statement), a photo ID and a security deposit; the city says most single-family homes pay $150, billed on the first bill. Accounts can be opened only in the owner’s name. Details are on the city’s water billing page.

Natural gas. Not every home has it. If yours does, find the supplier’s name on the meter or a past bill, or ask the seller, and start service with that company.

Internet and TV. The city airs its CityTV channel on Blue Stream (channels 25, 25.7 and 725) and AT&T U-verse (channel 99), so both serve parts of the city. Check service at your address with Blue Stream Fiber and AT&T.

2. Trash and recycling

Coastal Waste & Recycling collects garbage twice a week and recycling and bulk once a week. Carts are at the curb by 7 a.m. See trash and recycling.

3. Driver’s license and car

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles’ new resident page sets the deadlines:

  • Driver’s license: within 30 days of becoming a Florida resident.
  • Vehicle title and registration: within 10 days, with insurance from a Florida-licensed agent and a VIN verification by a law enforcement officer, a licensed Florida dealer or a tax collector employee.

In Broward County these services are handled by the Broward County Tax Collector, with offices at 115 S. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale; 1800 NW 66th Ave., Plantation; and 3718-3 W. Oakland Park Blvd., Lauderdale Lakes. Motor vehicles: 954-797-8733.

4. Property taxes and homestead

If the home is your permanent residence on Jan. 1, file for homestead by March 1 with the Broward County Property Appraiser. It takes up to $50,000 off your assessed value and caps future increases. Bills arrive Nov. 1, with 4% off for paying in November. See property taxes.

5. Schools

Public schools are run by Broward County Public Schools, 754-321-0000. Check which schools are zoned for your address, and note the proposals affecting Coral Springs Elementary and Forest Glen Middle. See the schools guide.

6. Voting

Register or update your address with the Broward County Supervisor of Elections, 954-357-8683. See voting.

7. Pets

Broward County requires every dog and cat 4 months or older to be vaccinated against rabies, registered with the county and wearing the county rabies tag, according to Broward County Animal Care. Dogs are allowed only in neighborhood parks on a leash and at the Sportsplex dog park; see parks and trails.

8. Permits and home projects

Replacing a water heater or A/C, adding a fence or a shed? You probably need a city permit. See building permits and zoning.
