Coral Springs plans a gym with courts, a track and a fitness center behind the Aquatic Complex. $1,795,500 is budgeted so far; the planning contract is paused.

Coral Springs is asking residents what they want in a new indoor sports building on vacant land behind the Aquatic Complex. The city’s second and last scheduled community meeting on the project was at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Updated Oct. 15: The Oct. 14 meeting has taken place. As of Oct. 15 the city had not posted a presentation or feedback results on the project page. The Sept. 23 minutes show the commission approved the amendment pausing the planning contract, 4-0, as part of its consent agenda.

The city’s meeting listing names the Coral Springs Gymnasium as the venue. The gymnasium is at 2501 Coral Springs Drive. The same listing’s location box still shows the Aquatic Complex Wood Room, 12441 Royal Palm Blvd., where the first meeting was held Sept. 26. The city takes questions at community@coralsprings.gov.

The meetings are open-house style. The city wants feedback on “amenities and scope,” and residents can register online.

What the city is planning

The project page calls it the Sportsplex Optimization Project. It describes a gym building with:

  • sports courts
  • a track
  • bleachers
  • a fitness center
  • locker rooms
  • other multipurpose space

The plan also covers redesigning the existing Aquatic Complex and Tennis Center sites. The city says its goal is a “world class facility” for sports, community events and competitions.

The city has budgeted $1,795,500 for the project so far. The project page does not give a construction cost, a funding source or an opening date.

How it got here

  • June 5, 2024: The city hired Sports Facilities Development LLC (SFC) of Clearwater, Florida, for facility and recreation master planning.
  • October 2025: Master plan options went to the City Commission.
  • January 2026: Commissioners named SFC the city’s owner’s representative on the project.
  • March 2026: The city filed an application with its Development Review Committee.
  • June 2026: PBK Architects was picked for design work.
  • July 2, 2026: Commissioners approved an agreement letting SFC explore naming rights and sponsorships.

The commission’s Sept. 23 agenda included a consent item to amend the master planning agreement, effective Sept. 30. Under the amendment, services and payments are deferred until a further written amendment restarts them. Commissioners approved it 4-0 with the rest of the consent agenda, the meeting minutes show.

What it means for you

This is the stage where the building’s contents are still open. If your family uses the Aquatic Complex, the Tennis Center or indoor courts elsewhere in the city, you can still send your views to community@coralsprings.gov.
