The Coral Springs Museum of Art opens its new downtown gallery Friday night. The first show is 57 original prints by Pablo Picasso.
The opening celebration runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at 3380 N. University Drive. Saturday is a free admission day, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The details are on the museum’s event page and in the city’s announcement.
Friday’s opening
- Tickets are $10 a person and free for museum members.
- Tickets are sold in one-hour time slots, and the museum caps the event at 140 guests.
- Each ticket includes one drink.
- There will be live music and limited-edition merchandise for sale.
- Book through the city’s recreation registration site.
What is on show
- Picasso: A Graphic Journey, through Dec. 5. The 57 prints were made between 1923 and 1972 and include etchings, lithographs and linocuts. A rare canceled copper printing plate is also on show. The Broward County Cultural Division supports the exhibition.
- Cages and Collage by local artist Janet Gold, through Dec. 31.
“It’s an incredible honor to welcome this collection of Picasso’s work,” said Commissioner Joshua Simmons, who chairs the museum’s board. He said the gallery “represents years of vision and investment in arts and culture.”
The new gallery
The city said the gallery has more than 5,000 square feet of exhibition space. It has a street-facing front and movable walls for changing shows. A store, a coffee station and a Creative Studio are part of the space.
The museum has been open for nearly 30 years, the city said. Its art classes continue at CSMoA Creative Studios, on the second floor of the Coral Springs Center for the Arts at 2855 Coral Springs Drive.
Coming up at the gallery, according to the museum’s calendar:
- Clay Dates, a beginner ceramics workshop, Saturday.
- One Day Camps for children on school days off, starting Monday.
- Picasso’s Prints: The Modernists Medium, a talk on the artist, Saturday, Oct. 24.
